Heather Grumley named assistant superintendent

Graham Mesa Elementary Principal Heather Grumley has been named Assistant Superintendent for the Garfield Re-2 School District, replacing Dave Lindenberg.

The Garfield School District Re-2 is pleased to announce that Heather Grumley has been chosen to be the new assistant superintendent beginning the 2017-18 school year. The appointment is pending board approval at the May 23 School Board meeting.

Grumley is currently the principal of Graham Mesa Elementary School in Rifle. Prior to becoming principal, she was an instructional coach at Elk Creek Elementary and Kathryn Senor Elementary. She has also served as an elementary instructor at Roy Moore Elementary and Kathryn Senor Elementary. She holds a bachelor's degree in English and Literature from the University of Puget Sound, and a master's in elementary education from Colorado College.

"I am so grateful to all of the people that have supported me along this journey," explained Grumley of her new position. "I have worked with great principals, administrators, teachers, and staff members that have taught me so much about leadership. I am excited to take on this new challenge and help the district that has raised me as an educator reach even higher levels."

Garfield Re-2 Superintendent Brent Curtice said Grumley is a great fit for the assistant superintendent position.

"We had many highly qualified candidates and Heather shone above them all. She is a proven leader, knows our district, and is poised to carry out the vision that has been lain out by the school board. Heather will help Garfield Re-2 accomplish so much in the coming years."

Garfield Re-2 had 22 applicants for the assistant superintendent position from all over the country. Applicants were interviewed by a committee of parents, teachers, and administrators and met with community members as well. Grumley will take over for Dave Lindenberg who resigned earlier this year. He will become the Sopris Elementary principal in Glenwood Springs next school year.

"Dave Lindenberg is a phenomenal leader and he will be greatly missed," Curtice added. "He will be an exceptional principal at Sopris Elementary and we wish him nothing but the best in his new adventures."

Grumley will begin her transition once the school year ends and will be able to spend time with Mr. Lindenberg to gain a deeper understanding of the position.
