Rifle’s beauty gets recognition from national website

As spring turns to summer, towns throughout the region often receive national recognition for their one-of-a-kind scenery or just being a great place to live or visit. Earlier this month, Glenwood Springs was named one of eight great outdoorsy towns in Where to Retire Magazine.

But rarely do such recognitions reach western Garfield County communities — until now.

OnlyinYourState.com, a national website that uncovers some of the great hole-in-the-wall joints or niche locations throughout the United States, named Rifle one of Colorado's most fascinating towns, describing it as "straight out of a fairy tale."

"From the rolling plains to the glistening lights of the city all the way to the tip top of the colorful Rocky Mountains, there is no shortage of enchanting places to go around," the article reads. "If we had to name a place that immediately pops out at us, however, it would have to be this Western Slope town and its purely magical caves."

With its gorgeous surroundings and history dating back over a century, author "Annie" calls Rifle both "small and charming" and picks the ice caves within Rifle Mountain Park as her "favorite part of town."

"Located within Rifle Mountain Park … whenever we see pictures of this spectacular area we can't help but think a cool and colorful fairy tale like 'Frozen,'" she wrote.
