CDOT’s Glenwood-Denver bus delayed

It may be a few more months before the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Bustang project really gets rolling.

Bustang, announced in May 2014, will provide weekday service to and from Denver out of Glenwood Springs, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.

CDOT communications director Amy Ford declined to give a specific date for the launch, but said the agency is on track for late spring or early summer.

“I would hate to set up an expectation with the public that we couldn’t meet, but we’re working hard to get it all together,” she said.

She says that from experience; CDOT in December showed off one of the WiFi-equipped buses in December in Denver and said service would start by April.

Right now, according to Ford, CDOT is concentrating on hiring and training drivers, installing tech to allow riders to track bus location, and refining timetables.

“You’re going to start seeing buses out on the roads to vet the schedule,” she said.

Right now, a tentative schedule has a bus leaving Glenwood’s 27th Street Park and Ride at 7:05 a.m. Monday through Friday, hitting stops in Eagle, Vail, Frisco and Lakewood, and arriving at the downtown Denver Bus Center at 10:35 a.m. The return trip would depart Denver at 6 p.m. and arrive in Glenwood at 9:45 p.m. A walk-up ticket will run $28 with discount passes available.

The service’s 13 50-passenger black and purple buses are packed with amenities to make the ride attractive. Besides WiFi, the buses have electrical outlets, USB ports, bike racks and bathrooms.
