Letter: Chief Wilson knows best

Mitch Mulhall
Glenwood Springs

In his letter published in the Post Independent on Aug. 8, Mr. Carl L. McWilliams argues Glenwood Springs should fire its police chief, Terry Wilson. Mr. McWilliams’ position arises from the conduct of Mr. Bobby Joe Honeycutt on July 19.

Mr. McWilliams argues that during Rudy Giuliani’s tenure as mayor of New York City between 1994 and 2001, Giuliani employed a “broken windows” theory of urban decay that, applied here, would not only curtail the upending of flower pots by Bobby Joe Honeycutt, but also public drunkenness and the use of methamphetamine.

New York City’s population eclipses Glenwood’s by about 8.4 million people, give or take 10,000. Police Chief Terry Wilson, a respected and longstanding member of our community, understands the scope of the law enforcement problems in this valley quite well.

If Mr. McWilliams’ views warrant any consideration, perhaps they’re at best a passing fancy.
