Garfield County Libraries are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Newsbank: Access World News. This new digital newspaper collection is updated daily and is free to library members.

Just in time for the new school year, this resource provides web-based access to more than 400 million current and archived articles from 139 countries and more than 4700 news sources — including 38 Colorado newspapers.

“Newsbank is perfect for students researching current events,” said Jordan Fields, digital services manager for the Garfield County Libraries.

Newsbank enables library users to easily search and browse current and archived news articles, editorials, reviews, birth and marriage announcements, obituaries and a variety of special sections.

Students and community members can use this resource for general reference or to research local and national issues, events, people, government, education, arts, business, sports, real estate and much more. It features an intuitive, map-based interface. Users can easily select and search a single or multiple news sources across a state, region or country, or choose to search all the sources in the database.

“If you just search using Google, you’re not going to find most of this stuff,” added Fields.

Newsbank: Access World News can be accessed from the “Research” tab of the library’s website, http://www.gcpld.org. You can use this database on the public computers at all six Garfield County Libraries, or log in 24/7 from home with your library card number. For more information on this new collection, contact your local Garfield County Library or visit http://www.gcpld.org.
