Letter: Can’t make sense of Trump
November 28, 2016
In response to the prolific Audrey Jane Spaulding’s assertion that the election “wasn’t even close,” I am further convinced that facts are of no concern to her. How does one go from the fact that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote to it “wasn’t even close?” Don’t get that one at all.
The way I see it, fewer than half of us have inexplicably managed to elect someone who couldn’t care less about those very people gullible enough to believe that Trump should lead our country. This is a man who bragged about barging unannounced into dressing rooms full of beauty contestants in various states of undress because he owned the pageant. Who does this? How can something like that not matter?
I’ve tried to make sense of this, and I can’t. I’m simply dumbfounded. To be so oblivious to such reckless displays of inappropriate and, frankly, seriously disturbing behavior is to demean the office of the presidency.
Either supporters are some of the worst judges of character in our history, or else, just like those bothersome facts, character just doesn’t matter. Both are equally unfortunate for the majority of us. At the very least, the Republicans have forever forfeited their claim to be the torchbearers for family values, because their guy might as well be the poster boy for a peeping Tom on steroids.
