Letter: Dirty little secret

On June 6, Dr. Greg Feinsinger wrote a very good article in which he stated that the top three causes of death in the United States are: 1. heart disease 2. cancer and 3. mistakes by the American health care system. Of these three, heart disease is, indeed, the leading cause of death in the United States with an average of approximately 610,000 deaths each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

However, the real leading cause of death in the United States each year is not from heart-related deaths. With more than 1 million deaths each year for more than the last 50 years, the leading cause of death in the United States is abortion.

Editor’s note: The number of U.S. abortions reported by the CDC ranged from more than 1 million a year from 1978-97 to 664,435 in 2013.
