The bridge, sadly, can’t be stopped

The “sky is falling” — er — “The Grand Avenue bridge needs replacing.”

It started with that premise. Business interests morphed the idea of a bridge into its proposed form. It’s not intuitive, it’s a unique outward expression of Glenwood’s personalities and a civil engineer’s dream. It’s not rocket science or trend-setting, it is unique in itself, but only as a passing curiosity to those on their way to or from Denver or points west. Those uncommitted, captive faces will get old to those merchants watching them pass by … especially while stopped at a red light. Grand Avenue businesses could, like Colfax Avenue businesses, tempt passing tourist as well as that of truckers and commuters with hints of spicy activities to get this business.

“You can’t fight city hall” rings true. It’s a machine, the Grand Avenue Bridge Project has “people inertia.” It can’t be stopped, even by common sense. My regrets to those caught in the quid pro quo. Growing up and living a better part of my adult life there, I have an interest by default, so my regrets as well to the future population of Glenwood who will never know better.
