Prep roundup: Call’s hat trick lifts Titans over Rams

Staff Report

PEACH VALLEY — Jenny Call’s hat trick, along with goals from Sam Dunn and Katlyn Harlow, all helped secure a 5-0 victory for the Coal Ridge High School girls soccer team against the Roaring Fork Rams in a nonleague game on Thursday afternoon.

Call scored in the third, 20th and 25th minute. Dunn scored in the 48th minute and Harlow added a goal in the sixth minute. The Titans (2-2-0) held a 4-0 halftime lead on the Rams (2-2-1) and never looked back.

“We were able to get that quick goal and really set the tempo,” Coal Ridge coach Micah Herron said. “Our girls were able to control possession and the pace of play throughout the game.”

Roaring Fork is off until April 2 when it plays at Aspen. Coal Ridge plays next at Rifle on March 31.

Grand Valley 9, Rangely 2

PARACHUTE — Grand Valley senior Kyra Chenoweth scored five goals — giving her nine goals in two games this season — to lead the Cardinals to a home nonleague victory over the Panthers.

Chenoweth scored in the 15th, 26th, 37th, 43rd and 56th minutes as Grand Valley (2-0-0) led 4-1 at halftime. Megan Smith found the net twice and had an assist on a Diana Arizaga goal in the 63rd minute and a Hannah Fenton goal in the 73rd. Gabby Coleman had two assists and Ally Moore and Logan Waterman each added assists for the Cardinals, and Kallista Lewis finished with five saves in goal for Grand Valley.

Grand Valley plays again April 2 at Longs Park.

Steamboat Springs 5, Glenwood Springs 1

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Jordi Floyd netted a hat trick for the Sailors (5-1-0 overall and 4A Western Slope League play), who scored four unanswered goals after the Demons (1-5-0, 1-4-0 league) had tied the game at 1-all.

Floyd opened the game’s scoring, taking a Natalie Bohlmann assist in the 10th minute to give the Sailors a 1-0 advantage.

Glenwood didn’t wilt, at least not early. Just five minutes later, Demons freshman Devin McSwain blasted a free kick past the Steamboat wall and just out of the outstretched hands of Sailors goalie Ocoee Wilson, securing the 1-1 equalizer.

Another Bohlmann-to-Floyd goal in the 25th minute, followed by a Bohlmann goal of her own in the 33rd gave Steamboat a 3-1 halftime advantage. Sailors junior Maggie Henry pitched in a 51st-minute goal, and Floyd capped off her hat trick in the 65th.

Glenwood gets its next two contests at home, starting with a break from conference play on April 2 against Grand Junction. They held an 18-13 shots-on-goal advantage.
