As anglers, we all know the story about the big fish that got away — that monster that you caught on 7X tippet with that epic cross-current cast and the perfect mend.

We all know these stories because we have all told them, or have overheard the guy three barstools down and three beers deep spinning the epic tale to his fishing buddies.

The truth of the matter is that these once-in-a-lifetime experiences do happen, and these days, with your smart phone, you can immediately upload the picture to your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or whatever social media outlet you may use, immediately making your buddies back in the office overwhelmingly jealous that they backed out on the annual fishing trip.

Showing your office-bound buddy how amazing this moment of fishing actually was is rather simple these days.

High-definition video can fill in all the blanks left unanswered from one photo, and answer that one burning question: Was it really that awesome? Yes it was.

Enter GoPro … the world’s most versatile camera.

For those who don’t know what a GoPro is, just Google it, and if you don’t know what Google is, then you probably don’t need a GoPro.

The benefit of the GoPro is the ability to film your very own point-of-view footage.

You can mount this camera just about anywhere on your body or sporting accessories, press record and do your thing.

Then you can head home, upload the videos to your computer, crack a beer and relive every turn, footstep, bounce, splash, or cast you made that day.

The best part is that these cameras come with their own waterproof housing, which makes them perfect for fishing.

No longer do you have to worry about dropping that new smart phone in the stream!

With the GoPro, you can shoot hi-definition video as well as still photos.

The GoPro Hero3+ comes with a Wi-Fi remote which enables you to set the camera down and film yourself at the push of a button.

This is pretty amazing stuff considering that the camera can fit in your shirt pocket.

I have been filming skiing and fishing for the last several years, and this camera is always in my kit when I head out the door.

My favorite angle when filming POV fishing shots is with the GoPro Chest Mount.

I have been able to capture some amazing fish-filled moments without even having to worry about the camera — something that is especially helpful when engrossed in an activity that requires both hands.

With the underwater housing you can even capture that big fish in its natural habitat (underwater).

If pictures really do say a thousand words, imagine what that video edit of your fishing trip will tell your family and friends.

If you like to document your experiences that will last a lifetime and maybe more, experiences that we are all lucky enough to share in these wild places, then go film some fish!
