Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association recruiting members at Carbondale beer party
May 15, 2014
The Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association is holding its spring membership drive at Beer Works in Carbondale on Saturday night.
The event will be held from 6-11 p.m. Beer Works is located at 647 Main St.
Along with lots of good brews, the event will feature a silent auction from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Pat Mahoney will play acoustic guitar starting at 6:30 p.m., the band Hannibal Brown will take the stage at 9 p.m., and Beer Works will donate $1 from each beer purchased during the event to the association.
The Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association was founded to create and sustain the best mountain-bike trail system possible in the Roaring Fork Valley. It weighs in on trail issues from Aspen to Glenwood Springs and from McClure Pass to Hagerman Pass.
The organization is a chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association, a strong advocacy organization. Mike Pritchard was hired as half-time director of the association in January.
Membership fees and donations help the association advocate for improving the trail system and increase the association's ability to be a partner in projects to maintain existing trails and build new ones. An individual membership is $50. The tax-deductible fee also enlists the member into the International Mountain Bicycling Association.
The organization helped create five miles of new singletrack trail on Sky Mountain Park last year. The Airline and Cozyline trails will open this spring and provide an alternative to Radar Road to climb the eastern side of Sky Mountain Park near Snowmass.
The Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association will also be a partner in the trail work being planned for the Hunter Creek Valley-Smuggler Mountain system. The chapter will also sponsor mountain bike trail improvement projects throughout the 2014 summer.
Riders who cannot make the membership party in Carbondale can donate to RFMBA by going to http://www.rfmba.org/membership/.
