Vosbeck, Wertheim win Day of Infamy race at Sunlight

Behind a blistering pace, Carbondale’s Charlie Wertheim won the men’s division — and overall — Day of Infamy Snowshoe race at Sunlight Mountain on Saturday, while Glenwood’s Heidi Vosbeck won the women’s division, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of the women’s second-place finisher.

Wertheim placed first in the men’s race with a time of 45 minutes and 16 seconds, finishing more than a minute ahead of second place finisher Eric Black (47:01). Placing third was Brian Passenti at 49:43.

Matt Johnson (50:58) and John Linn (53:30) rounded out the top five in the men’s division.



Defending race winner Wes Toews was on pace to win the race once again, but the front runner unfortunately missed a turn on the course and was disqualified.

In the women’s race, Vosbeck flew through the course with a time of 56 minutes and 38 seconds, finishing well ahead of second place finisher Kathryn Ruggles (1:00:58). Morgan Hill came in just behind Ruggles for third place with a time of 1:01:34, while Jessi Rochel finished fourth with a time of 1:07:12.



Sara Bentley and Lori Kohls finished tied for fifth with identical times of 1:18:55.
