2025 5Point Film Festival

What: Join 5Point Film in Carbondale for its 18th annual flagship festival. Each year, 5Point builds community and inspires change by screening an array of the best adventure films. This year’s program boasts almost 40 films, including two full-length features. Events like an opening night party, free yoga and sound healing, the 5Point 5k and Sopris Sessions with food trucks, live music, an obstacle course and more round out the weekend of celebration and adventure. How much: Tickets range in price from the free Family Film Program (a donation is suggested)  to $550 for an all-access pass that includes all short film programs, the Saturday feature film program, Friday filmmaker dinner, Sunday awards brunch and more. 

Earth Day along Rifle Creek

What: Celebrate Earth Day with a morning of environmental stewardship near Rifle Creek. Community volunteers can participate in activities including willow planting with the Middle Colorado Watershed Council, mulching and clean-up along the creek. There will be opportunities to learn about outdoor programs like fishing and stream flow and a free prize drawing at Centennial Park. Registration and site assignments begin at 8 a.m., site work starts at 8:30 a.m. and the prize drawing begins at 11:30 a.m. If possible, volunteers are encouraged to bring rakes, gloves and brooms. 

When: 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 26. 8:30 a.m. – Site work begins

How much: Free

Springtime River Cleanup

What: Join the City of Glenwood Springs River Commission for a morning of community river cleanup before the snowmelt runoff. Use your own boat or walk along the banks. Gloves, hand sanitizer, trash bags, sunscreen and water (bring your own reusable bottle) will be provided. 

When: 8-11 a.m. Saturday, April 26

Where: Two Rivers Park Boat Ramp, 740 Devereux Road Glenwood Springs

How much: Free

Strut for Mutts

What: Support shelter animals in need, get some exercise and spend time with your dog during the furriest 5k on the Western Slope. Hosted by Journey Home Animal Care Center, participants can sign up as individuals or in a team to walk, jog, or run with their dogs. Register at runsignup.com/Race/CO/Rifle/StrutforMutts.

When: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 26

Where: Deerfield Park, 300 E. 30th St., Rifle

How much: Tickets are $30 for individuals and $55 for a team of three (each person added to the team after the third person gets a discounted rate of $20) 

Buddy Program’s Noche de Loteria

What: Join the Buddy Program for an evening of Lotería, a classic Mexican game of chance similar to bingo. Players use colorful cards that depict traditional images like ‘La Dama,’ ‘El Corazón’ and ‘El Catrín’ in this fun and easy to learn game. The Buddy Program will provide free tacos, sides and beverages (bring a dessert to share if you can) and prizes for nine adult and nine youth winners. Although Lotería is fun for all ages, there will also be a supervised area with activities for children.

When: 6-8 p.m., Saturday, April 26

How much: Food and first playing card is free. Suggested donation for a second card is $5

Locals’ Choice Celebration 2025

What: Raise a toast to the finalists and winners of the Post Independent’s 26th year of Locals’ Choice. Connect with your community and celebrate the fantastic businesses, people and places of Garfield County at this annual event featuring gourmet bites, a cash bar and great music. 

When: 6-8 p.m.,Thursday, May 1

Where: Hotel Colorado, 526 Pine St., Glenwood Springs

Carbondale Family Block Party

What: Head to Carbondale for the 15th Annual Family Block Party during the May First Friday. The party is a free, family-friendly event that supports local nonprofits. Each nonprofit will have a craft or activity for children. Event highlights include carnival games, the Rosybelle Mobile Maker-Space, a silent auction and a showcase of some Colorado Animal Rescue’s adoptable dogs. The annual Carbondale Pride Parade, which used to be held on the May First Friday, will now be during the June First Friday.

When: 4-8 p.m., Friday, May 2

Where: Fourth Street Plaza/Chacos Park, Fourth and Main Street, Carbondale

How much: Free

Carbondale Rotary Fireball Drop

What: During the fourth annual Fireball Drop, 1,000 ping pong balls will be dropped from a fire truck’s ladder onto targets in downtown Carbondale. Attendees can purchase tickets to adopt a ball and whoever’s ball is closest to the target wins a prize. There is one $5,000 grand prize and other prize packages worth at least $250. Sponsored by Alpine Bank, proceeds from the event support Carbondale Rotary scholarships, youth services, local grants and international relief work. 

When: 5-5:30 p.m., Friday, May 2

Where: The Village Smithy, 26 S. Third St., Carbondale

How much: An adoption ticket is $20 or three for $50. Members of the Carbondale rotary are selling tickets at Carbondale’s City Market Thursday through Sunday this month. Tickets are also available through the rotary’s nonprofit partners: Ascendigo Autism Services, and the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District.

YouthZone’s Second Annual Spring Gala

What: Head to the YouthZone’s Spring Gala for drinks, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and live music by The Confluents — all in the name of supporting YouthZone’s youth services. Attendees will have the chance to win a brand new vehicle worth up to $50,000 from Bighorn Toyota. To participate, submit up to five entries to the sweepstakes (entry is free but a donation is strongly encouraged)  and one lucky person will get the chance to choose one key out of 50. If they select the winning key, they win. 

When: 6-9 p.m., Friday, May 2

Where: Hotel Colorado, 526 Pine St., Glenwood Springs

How much: Individual tickets are $45 each. A table of eight is $290. 

Jim Witter, Sing us a Song You’re the Piano Man

What: This tribute to Billy Joel’s music is the last community concert of the season for the Glenwood Springs Community Concert Association. Featuring Jim Witter and his band, the show will also be accompanied by highlights of Joel’s career. Those who purchase a membership for the 2025-2026 season can attend this performance as a bonus. 

When:7-9 p.m., Friday, May 2

Circus Genoa 

What: Head to Rifle for a circus adventure. Classic circus performers like transformers, jugglers, acrobats and clowns will abound at the Circus Genoa’s new 2025 show. 

When: 4:30-6 p.m.,7:30-9 p.m., Saturday, May 3

Where: Garfield County Fairgrounds, 1001 Railroad Ave., Rifle

How much: $16.09 for ages 12 and up, $5.89 for children ages 2-11. All children under two years of age are free. The first 100 tickets for those ages 12 and up are $9.99. Visit the Post Independent’s online event calendar for more information. 

33rd Annual Mayfaire

What: The Mayfaire is a free, annual family festival full of delightful activities and events. Attendees can expect crafts, flower crowns, music, a marionette show and much more. 

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3

MayFest

What: This is the first annual MayFest, a youth-led community event featuring information about community resources, career and internship opportunities and a host of fun activities for youths and their families. Organized by Garfield County School District 16’s (G16) School-Based Family Resource Center, the Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis Foundation and the Town of Parachute, the day of fun will begin with a 5k race benefiting the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Garfield County. Other activities include a pancake breakfast, a car show, food trucks, a dance performance by Grand Valley Recreation Center Dancers and more. 

When: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 3

Where: Cottonwood Park,100 La Plata Circle, Parachute

How much: Free

PEO, Chapter AO Education Scholarship Fundraiser

What: Enjoy a classic show at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue while supporting women’s education. The Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO) Chapter AO awards thousands of dollars in college scholarships to women graduating from high school around the Roaring Fork Valley each year. All ticket proceeds from the show will benefit the PEO Chapter AO. 

When: 5 p.m., Sunday, May 4

Where: Glenwood Vaudeville Revue, 915 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs

How much: $30 for adults, $27 for seniors, $18 for children 12 and under. Food and drinks are a la carte.
