Two dead in head-on crash on Colorado 13

Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Colorado 13 north of Rifle and the highway was closed “for the foreseeable future,” the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said the head-on crash between a pickup truck and tanker occurred at 4:15 p.m.

The road was closed in both directions from mile marker 4.5 to mile marker 19. The accident occurred at mile 15.

Traffic was being detoured in part by using Colorado 325.

Site investigations and area clean-ups must be completed before the road can be reopened, the sheriff’s office said.
