Introduction to Gym Climbing Class

What: Visit the brand new Rifle Climbing Center and learn the fun and challenging sport of rock climbing. The first hour will be instruction led, and then the routine will loosen for the second hour for more social climbing opportunities. You will learn introductions to climbing grades, basic terminology, how to fall safely, and much more. After purchasing a class, you gain access to two free weeks of entrance and free shoe rentals.

These Shining Lives

What: Melanie Marnich’s “These Shining Lives” is a story of survival and resilience. Set in the 1920s, Catherine and her friends work at a factory painting watch faces with radium paint. After years of working at the company, the watch painters are sick, afflicted with severe pain and dying from radium poisoning. Together, they risk everything to take the company to court and ensure workers after them don’t suffer the same fate. 

When: 7:30-9 p.m., Friday, May 16, Saturday, May 17, 2 p.m., Sunday, May 18

Where: Thunder River Theatre Company, 67 Promenade, Carbondale

Rifle Rendezvous Festival 

What: Head to the Garfield County Fairgrounds for the annual Rifle Rendezvous Festival, where family fun, food and entertainment awaits. This year’s festival includes carnival rides, vendors, an art auction, shamrock shindig, archery shoot, full throttle bull bash and more. 

When: Carnival is open 4-11 p.m., Friday, May 16, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Go to facebook.com/riflerendezvous/ for the full festival schedule.

Spring Smash for Stepping Stones

What: Play pickleball for a purpose at the Spring Smash, a tournament that supports Carbondale’s youth empowerment non-profit, Stepping Stones. First, second and third place winners at all levels will receive prizes. Play partner pool play, with three games guaranteed, and double elimination. 

When: 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17

Where: Young-Calaway Pickleball Courts at North Face Park, Meadowood Drive, Carbondale

Back In Black-Tie

What: Dress in your best and head to the Hotel Colorado for an evening of cocktails, dancing and good friends. 

When: 7-11 p.m., Saturday, May 17

Spring Swing SITV Golf Tournament

What: Golf for good at the Symphony in the Valley’s first annual Spring Swing Golf Tournament. Tournament proceeds go directly to the symphony, which offers live orchestral music to Garfield County communities while giving local musicians performance opportunities. The symphony also supports young musicians through scholarship and musical outreach programs. After the tournament, special contests, live music and a catered lunch will be provided.

When:  Team registration, 7:30 a.m., tournament, 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, May 23

Where: Lakota Links Golf Club, 1000 Clubhouse Drive, New Castle

The Rhythm of Reflection: Sage VOICES Theatre Project

What: Enjoy a completely original multi-generational collaborative theater piece Friday through Sunday at the Thunder River Theater. The performance features the Sage VOICES Project, a collaboration between community seniors (sages) ages 75 and up and youth ages 12-15 years old. Through devised theater, youth and sages create original productions inspired by their personal stories using movement, music, spoken word and theater making. The project is directed by Tom Cochran. 

When: 7 p.m., Friday, May 23, Saturday, May 24, 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25

Where: Thunder River Theatre Company, 67 Promenade, Carbondale
