Art Scene: Strength in unity

When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” – Mattie Stepanek
There are very few things in life that we can accomplish on our own. Just ask the pharaoh who thought building the Great Pyramid of Giza would be a nice way for people to remember him. Twenty years and 2.3 million limestone blocks later, it was all about the team.
The definition of team will take the stage tonight when the Center for the Arts presents our Dancers Dancing spectacular, A Night In New York, at the Glenwood Springs High School’s J. Miller Theatre.
We are in the business of impact, of suspending reality, of delivering the moment. Our pre-ballet to advanced company will perform original dance choreography, complete with stunning costumes, lighting and music and, for the first time, at our Sunday matinee, our award-winning competitive dancers will join them.
Our dancers, from 3 to 18, keep us focused on why the Center for the Arts exists: to discover, encourage and nurture the talent in everyone whether it is dance, art or music.
This is the 24th year that the Center for the Arts has staged our largest education fundraiser of the year.
The Center delivers over 60 in-house programs serving 700 students, after-school art, music and dance classes to 5 area elementary schools and a bi-lingual art and literacy program in partnership with the Glenwood Springs Library.
You have always been a big part of our success and we invite you to be a part of this fabulous night. Purchase tickets at glenwoodarts.org or call 970-945-2414. Adults $16 and Students $10. Doors open at 6:15 tonight and Saturday and 1:15 Sunday.
Tonight, when the curtain rises on A Night In New York what you will see on stage is the result of a creative team who pitched every idea, rational or not, then arrived at consensus, who delivered on promises against the odds then committed to more, and who never lost sight of the goal to include everyone who wanted to be part of this art.
This weekend would never happen if it weren’t for Maurine Taufer, Director of Dancers Dancing and our dance program. She takes the ‘littles’ who have never danced before and unlocks a talent they didn’t know they had. She works with the ‘bigs’ and takes them to the next level of creativity and imagination. Thank you, dear friend, for all you do.
