Brew News: Avery Brewing Co. opens new brewery in Boulder

The new Avery Brewing Co. brewery is located at 4910 Nautilus Court, in the Gunbarrel area of North Boulder. The brewery is offering guided tours at 4 and 5 p.m. daily through Friday, Feb. 27, and at 4 p.m. daily thereafter. Self-guided tours are always available. Avery Brewing Co. recently celebrated the grand opening of its shiny new $30 million brewery in the Gunbarrel area of North Boulder. The expansion is also cause for celebration for beer lovers across the state, who can look forward to an increase in Avery options in bottles, cans and drafts at restaurants, bars and liquor stores.
“We’re just going to have more,” said Jason “Shag” Hardwick, mountain ale ambassador for Avery. “We’re going to focus on a lot of barrel-aged beers. We’re going to produce more, so more accounts will be able to get our specialty stuff, which is going to be awesome for everybody.”
Beyond a higher volume of current brews, Avery is also expanding its lineup, adding eight new beers to its distribution portfolio this year, including the No. 1 selling beer in its taproom, Lilikoi Kepolo, a Belgian white made with passion fruit, and a Double IPA, both of which will be available in four-packs of cans. The brewery is also adding a Botanicals & Barrels series of bombers that features a raspberry sour that will be up for grabs year-round.
“Sours are usually one-offs or not available all the time,” Shag said. “There will also be a vanilla bean stout and a coconut porter. We’re not just opening a new brewery, we’re continuing what’s par for the course at Avery. Let’s put out all these new, fresh beers because we have this state-of-the-art facility that can handle it now.”
The new brews don’t stop there. Avery also has a Flemish-style summer seasonal made with peaches dubbed Perzik Saison in the works, and in the fall, the brewery will begin canning Gored, a pumpkin ale that was launched on draft last year.
“On top of all that, we’ll have our one-off barrel series, whether it’s a sour or a different beer, that will be coming out throughout the rest of he year,” Shag said. “Uncle Jacob’s (Stout) is coming out just this week. This year, we have it on draft and in 12-ounce bottles, so we’ve never done draft on that before.”
Shag said he’s excited about the broader selection of beer coming to Summit County, in addition to the standards that beer drinkers here have been enjoying for the past 23 years that Avery has been brewing.
“The new brewery is really about investment in quality, expanding our portfolio and getting back to our roots of having one of the largest, most creative portfolios in craft beer,” said Darin McGregor, Colorado sales manager for Avery.
