On Friday, Feb. 27, Crazy Mountain Brewing Co. is teaming up with Pink Vail, the world’s largest ski day to conquer cancer, and throwing a keg-tapping party for Pink Vail Fruit Ale from 5 to 8 p.m. This delightfully fruity beer features raspberry, pomegranate and red currant flavors, yielding a slight sweetness complimented by a tangy zest.

Crazy Mountain will be offering $2 pints of the Pink Vail Fruit Ale and live music by the Trevor G. Potter Band. ROARING FORK BEER CO. HOSTS INAUGURAL HOMEBREW COMP

Roaring Fork Beer Co. in Carbondale is currently holding its first-ever homebrew competition, an American Homebrew Association (AHA) supported event. Entries will be accepted in the taproom through Saturday, March 14, and the competition will follow rules and guidelines from the Beer Judge Certification Program.

The winner of the first-place “Best in Show” prize will have the opportunity to brew his or her winning beer on Roaring Fork’s commercial brew system with professional brewers, have their winning beer tapped in the tasting room and be entered into the Pro-Am Competition at the Great American Beer Fest. Second and third place also will be awarded, with prizes to be determined.

“There are so many great homebrewers in this valley and in this state that we wanted to celebrate their creativity by allowing them to showcase their brews in collaboration with us,” said Chase Engel, CEO and head brewer of Roaring Fork Beer Co. “We are really looking forward to getting together with other professional brewers and judges in the area for what will be a fun and exciting day of judging.”

The brewery has asked each homebrewer to limit their entries to up to five and will accept any style of beer, as long as it follows the approved guidelines. Winners will be announced Saturday, March 28, at Roaring Fork’s one-year anniversary party. Winners do not need to be present at time of announcement. A panel of professional brewers in Colorado, as well as certified beer judges, will be judging the submitted homebrews.

GREEN FLASH DEBUTS THIRD-ANNUAL HOP ODYSSEY SERIES

This month, Green Flash Brewing Co. will kick off its third-annual Hop Odyssey series, a national beer program that focuses on exploring new hop varietals, fresh combinations and innovative brewing methods. This year’s series is an in-depth look at Green Flash brewmaster Chuck Silva’s intimate relationship with hops from farm to fermenter.

Hop Odyssey 2015 is composed of three Session IPAs that deliver a balance of complexity, each with an identical malt base to best highlight the flavors from the featured hops. Each is available for a limited time nationwide on tap and in bottles and is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume with 65 International Bittering Units.

“Through the Hop Odyssey series, we are able to introduce three exceptionally hoppy session ales into our 2015 product rotation,” said Mike Hinkley, Green Flash CEO and Co-Founder. “Chuck is the master when it comes to hop selection. I am confident that this year’s series will resonate with craft consumers who want sessionable beers that have a flavor profile that’s on par with some of the higher-gravity IPAs in our portfolio.”
