Busy musical weekend at Glenwood Caverns
The Music on the Mountain Series continues at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with back-to-back concerts, featuring Lizard Skinner on Saturday, Sept. 7, and an afternoon of Christian Music on Sept. 8. Guests can enjoy live music, drink specials and a free tram ride up and down the mountain during both events in exchange for a canned food donation to the LIFT-UP food pantry.
So far this year, the Music on the Mountain Concerts have brought in almost 5,100 nonperishable food items. The community donated 1,311 cans at the concert on Aug. 24, including 750 from concert sponsor Glenwood Insurance Agency.
Saturday: Lizard Skinner
Lizard Skinner brings an eclectic mix of classic and California surf rock and an element of reunion to the stage. Their song list is diverse and features a mix of the best tunes from The Steve Skinner Band and longtime local favorites Louie and The Lizards. With music ranging from Jane’s Addiction to John Denver, there promises to be a little something for everyone in the family. The band is fronted by local rock ’n’ roll mainstays Louie Girardot (Louie & The Lizards) and Steve Skinner (The Love Machine, Wakabak) and features Corey Spagnolo (The Chambers Brothers, The Natives) on drums and Michael “Mikie” Girardot (Louie & The Lizards, Less than Lucid) on lead guitar.
Cans-for-a-tram rides begin at 4 p.m. and the band performs from 6-10 p.m. The park will be open until 10 p.m. for this event, with the last tram ride up at 9:30 p.m. The outdoor rides and attractions will close at dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 10 p.m. This concert is sponsored by the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.
Sunday: Christian Music Concert
Guests can enjoy an afternoon of contemporary Christian music performed by two local church groups. United with a common purpose, musicians from The Orchard church in Carbondale enjoy creating music together. With a variety of musical tastes from bands such as U2, Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Chris Tomlin and Jesus Culture, and backgrounds ranging from rock to bluegrass, this group of musicians has a passion to blend music, life and faith into an experience the audience is sure to enjoy. Playing together every weekend at The Orchard, they strive to bring authenticity to their audience and be examples of their faith in Jesus Christ.
The New Creation Church Worship Team is leading the people of the Roaring Fork Valley in passionate, uplifting and intimate praise and worship. Because of the way that youth are embraced and encouraged to be a part of the team, New Creation Church (NCC) has been blessed to draw its worship leaders from a deep and talented pool of musicians and songwriters within the congregation. Melissa Hefferon, who grew up in NCC, is the leader of the Worship Team and unites generations with simplicity and excellence.
The cans-for-a-tram rides begin at 2 p.m. for this special Sunday event, and the groups will perform from 4–8 p.m. The outdoor rides and attractions will close at dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 8 p.m. Bighorn Toyota is the sponsor of this event.
The series continues Saturday, Sept. 14, with Acoustic Mayhem and wraps up on Sept. 21 with the Missing Link Band.
