FREETIME: Up for a ‘rib-roaring’ good time?

The seventh annual Colorado Pork and Hops Challenge is set for Sept. 12-14 at Lincoln Park. The jam-packed event will feature five live bands, locally brewed craft beers, award-winning barbecue, car show, craft booths, and amateur barbecue competition. Tickets are on sale at the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Office in Lincoln Park at 12th Street and Gunnison Avenue.

Thursday, Sept. 12



BBQ 101 – taught by Kelly Wertz, past BBQ world champion

6-9:30 p.m., cost $125. Register at GJ Parks and Rec or call 970-254-3866

Friday, Sept. 13

Festival concert: 4:30-10 p.m. Admission: $15

Craft Brew Night – featuring local brewers Copper Club, Kannah Creek, Palisade Brewery and Suds Brothers

On stage: 6 p.m. Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband and 8 p.m. Little Texas

Saturday, Sept. 14

Festival: 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Free admission

6:30 a.m. Amateur Backyard BBQ Rib Competition – call GJ Parks & Rec to register at 970-254-3866

11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Car Show sponsored by the Western Colorado Mustang and Ford Club

11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Food, beer and craft vendors

12:30 p.m. – People’s Choice sampling of the professional BBQ teams, 10 samples for $10

Festival concert: 3:30-10 p.m. Admission: $20

On stage: 4 p.m. Lever Action Band; 6 p.m. The Led Stetson Band; and 8 p.m. Joe Diffie
