Grand Valley concerts not to miss this week

AVALON THEATRE

World-famous cellist Lynn Harrell will perform for a sold-out crowd on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the newly updated Avalon Theatre (635 Main St., Grand Junction). If interested in being added to the waiting list for tickets, call 970-243-6787 or email info@gjsymphony.org.

The Grand Junction Centennial Band will perform at the Avalon on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $5 per person and it is also a fundraiser for the Avalon Foundation. An afterglow party is planned after the concert and costs $15.

TWO RIVERS CONVENTION CENTER

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot will perform at Two Rivers Convention Center (159 Main St., Grand Junction) on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $40-60.

SPOONS BISTRO & BAKERY

Morgan Crouse will perform Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 6-8 p.m. at Spoons Bistro & Bakery (3090 N. 12th St., Grand Junction). It will be on the outside patio. The event is free to attend.

WINE COUNTRY INN

Live in the Vines Concert Series finishes out its season at Wine Country Inn (777 Grande River Dr., Palisade) with a performance by Gerry Goodman on Friday, Sept. 19. The show starts at 7 p.m. and costs $10 (unless you are a hotel guest or a diner at the hotel’s restaurants).

MESA THEATER AND LOUNGE

Redlands, an alternative local band, will perform at Mesa Theater (538 Main St., Grand Junction) on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. Musical guests include Medic, Amzy, and Berlin Breaks. Tickets cost $12 at the door and open for all ages.

Local hip-hop artist Luie Lux wants to celebrate his birthday with the Grand Valley on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12 per person and open for all ages.

COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY

The first-ever Cello Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20, at CMU’s Moss Performing Arts Center (1100 N. 12th St., Grand Junction). The event will include a performance by Lynn Harrell at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The festival will also host performances by seasoned professionals and beginners alike. A final concert is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.

The festival is free and open to the public.

CMU’s String Orchestra will perform on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Moss Performing Arts Center’s recital hall. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
