‘May the fourth’ Star Wars event this Saturday in Glenwood Springs

The city of Glenwood Springs, Visit Glenwood and the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association are hosting an event to celebrate Star Wars Day and downtown Glenwood.

“The event came to be because we wanted to enhance the awareness of our shop and dine Glenwood experience,” said Patrick Miller, events and marketing coordinator with the city of Glenwood Springs.

“Especially with Seventh Street being closed, we really want people to have a reason to go downtown and under the bridge.”

From 4-6 p.m. Saturday businesses will hand out candy to patrons dressed in Star Wars attire or costumes.

“Encouraging people to have fun with the day,” Miller added.

At 6 p.m. there will be a screening of Episode 8, “The Last Jedi,” underneath the Grand Avenue Bridge in Bethel Plaza.

The plaza is named after the late Leslie Bethel, whose vision brought the area under the new bridge to life.

Miller hopes that after the movie, people will take advantage of the downtown restaurants.

Miller said it is the first of many events under the Grand Avenue bridge, downtown and in city parks.

“Increasing the awareness of our shops, restaurants, and all the different business here in Glenwood,” Miller added.
