One book 4 Colorado available through May 1
Parents of Colorado 4-year-olds may pick up a free copy of “Mouse Mess” by Linnea Riley through May 1. The book is distributed by One Book 4 Colorado, a privately funded program in its sixth year.
Books are available locally at all Garfield County Public Library branches while supplies last.
Research indicates that 4-year-old children who are read to by adults are better prepared to learn to read when they enroll in kindergarten. However, lower-income children are less likely to have books in the home.
The program selects a different book annually. Each book must be appropriate for the age group, available in English and Spanish and available from a publisher who can create a custom imprint for the program. Colorado librarians and early childhood educators choose the year’s three finalists. Colorado residents then vote to determine the year’s book.
