1-70 eastbound closed at GWS

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 are closed at Glenwood Springs because of a traffic accident involving a semitrailer.

The semi jackknifed on eastbound I-70 at about milepost 121 about 10:30 a.m., state officials said.

Two other cars crashed into the semi, but there were no serious injuries.

The crash could have been more serious if not for the actions of an alert motorist, officials said.

The motorist, a Tulsa, Oklahoma man, was able to avoid the crash, pull off the highway and warn other motorists to slow down.

State transportation officials are hopeful the interstate will be open later this afternoon.

No further details were available at this time.
