15 minutes with … a Strawberry Days vendor

Hometown: LakewoodAge: 56Place of Birth: ChicagoOccupation: Potterymaker (with husband for 24 years), Nurse AidMoved to Colorado: 1968What brings you to Strawberry Days? We have been doing this event for a number of years and it is just something we look forward to every year. It’s really neat because Glenwood is quite a large city now, but it feels like a small town. The way the whole town comes out and celebrates this event, it feels like a small town, very close and warm event.

What’s your favorite part of Strawberry Days? They have really good quality workers here. … The people that work the show are extremely friendly. What would you buy if you won the lottery and could only spend your winnings at Strawberry Days? Probably a little bit of everything. I’d hit the salmon booth, that’s for sure. Best job ever? I’m a nurse aid in oncology and I deal with people who are fighting for their lives every day. It is by far the most rewarding work I have ever done in my life. Greatest accomplishment? Having a 26-year marriage and loving every minute of it.

Have you ever had a book, movie or news event change your life? I saw “The Passion of the Christ” and it absolutely did change my life because the work I was doing at the time was a dental assistant, and I thought this is not enough, I’ve got to do something more to serve. And I went out … and found this CNA (nurse aid) work. … It’s just incredible work. Every day you get to make a difference in somebody’s life. If you had only three TV channels what would you watch? The “Puppy Channel,” maybe the History Channel and something that shows a lot of old movies. If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would they be, what would you serve and what would you talk about? I’d probably like to see my mom and dad again and have them for dinner and cook for them. … I can’t think of number three. I don’t know what I’d cook because I’m a great cook and it’s really hard to figure that out. Greatest invention of all time? The wheel because it’s used everywhere.
