How long have you co-owned Glenwood Canyon Kayak? Almost one year (it will be one year on June 10)

When did you move to Garfield County and why?

CV: November of 2004; because we knew we were going to be buying the shop and we wanted to be closer

BW: July of 1997; for the rivers

Best vacation ever?

CV: the past 15 years living in Colorado

BW: the old family trips to Disneyland

Best place to paddle?

CV: the South Canyon wave when it’s up

BW: Slaughterhouse Falls

Ever had a book, movie or news event change your life?

CV: Yes, many. Book: “Travels with Charley” by John Steinbeck; movie: “Dead Poets Society”; and news event: the fall of the Berlin Wall

BW: too many to pick from

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received; or cliche to live by?

CV: my stepmom always said, “Life is too short to not be doing what you want to.” She died young, so she knew where she was coming from.

BW: First pants, then shoes.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

CV: I always wanted to be a professional football player, but it turned out I was small. Now I’m too old.

BW: a paleontologist

If you only had three TV channels, what would you watch?

CV: ESPN, HBO and Animal Planet

BW: ESPN, CNN and Discovery Channel

If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would they be, what would you serve and what would you talk about?

CV: Einstein would be at the top of my list. And Tom Brady and Tom Hanks. Pizza would be good to serve ” everybody loves pizza. We would talk about the state of education in this country.

BW: John Lennon, Martin Sexton and Nelson Mandela. I would serve whatever they wanted. And it would be a long conversation with that group of people.

What’s the greatest invention of all time?

CV: the bent-shaft paddle
