150 homes too many for Four Mile Ranch

Dear Editor,

Hooray to you, Jim Hawkins!

Thank you for your letter which ran in the March 4 Post Independent. You were able to explain in plain English what exactly is happening to the beautiful piece of Colorado known in City Council circles as “Four Mile Ranch.”

I can only hope that others are as outraged as I am about the way our council members have handled a developer finagling approval of a project because he can make them feel it is the lesser of two evils. It’s difficult to know for sure if the new proposal violates the city growth plan since the growth plan is so obviously interpreted differently by different people, but what seems equally as obvious to me is that it definitely violates our trust in the people we have elected to make decisions that impact our lives.

I encourage anyone who can to attend the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting that will address this project. If you can’t attend, write a letter, make a phone call, talk to a neighbor, do something!

I’m sad to see the root cellar and outbuildings from the original homestead gone and will be even sadder to see what remains of the homestead completely obliterated by the construction of 150 homes which is, as Jim points out, triple what the property was approved for. How did this happen? If you have feelings about this, please speak up.

Our voices and our votes may be all we have and they are enough! We can make a difference!
