170 miles of thanks

Dear Editor,

This last weekend the Colorado Outward Bound School held their annual 170 mile “Colorado Relay” race from Idaho Springs to Glenwood Springs. This event, now in its fourth year, has grown dramatically in size and is one of few events of this type and format. Glenwood’s local economy also benefited as the event brought over 1,000 runners to Glenwood Springs for the weekend. The “Rascals” was one of the local Glenwood teams competing in the event. We finished 21st out of 103 teams with a total time for the 170 miles of 23 hours, 18 minutes. Our team could not have competed in or finished the event without the support of our friends, family and neighbors. It took, among other items, two dozen bagels, ten gallons of water, five gallons of “Power Ade,” sport goo, power bars, Band-Aids, two borrowed vans and more bananas then we can remember. We would like to give a big thanks to our team volunteers: Linda Pawlak, Parvin Erlandsen, Pavel Tempir and Linda Mock. We would also like to thank the following individuals and businesses for their financial donations to Outward Bound and in-kind support to our team: WestStar Bank, Ron Neimeyer of First Western Mortgage, McDonalds of Glenwood Springs, Alpine Bank, Elks Club, Hepworth Pawlak Geotechnical, Liberty Mortgage, Flooring America, Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and Pool, Jim Robinson, and Marianne Ackerman. Because of the overwhelming support we received, we were able to contribute over $800 to Colorado Outward Bound.

Thank you,

Steven Vanderhoof

and the “Rascals”
