2004 graduation moves up a week

Graduation ceremonies for high schools in Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Basalt will be held Sunday, May 23, 2004, a week earlier than usual.

The Roaring Fork School Board approved the change in the traditional high school graduation date at its Dec. 10 meeting.

Superintendent Fred Wall said the move was reviewed and recommended for approval by the district administration and high school principals to avoid a possible conflict with students attending the state track competition May 21-22.

Graduation at the district’s three large high schools traditionally is scheduled for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, which will be May 29, but the district calendar ends before Memorial Day this year.

The high school graduation ceremonies on May 23 are scheduled for noon for Glenwood Springs High School, 2:30 p.m. for Basalt High School and 4:30 p.m. for Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale.

The graduation date for the non-traditional Bridges High School, which expects to graduate up to 25 students, also has been changed. The ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the Sunlight Mountain Resort lodge.
