32 people apply for New Castle town administrator position

NEW CASTLE – The town has received 32 applications for the position of town administrator being vacated by Steve Rippy.Rippy, a former longtime mayor and town council member, has been the town administrator since 2001. He announced his resignation in October.”We were pleasantly surprised at the number of applications we’ve received, although I didn’t know what to expect,” Rippy said. “We have a pretty strong group to look through.”The applications have come from both in- and out-of-state. The deadline to apply was Dec. 15.A four-member personnel committee made up of council members will review the applications and whittle the number to about five. The council as a whole will then conduct interviews of the candidates.Rippy had targeted his resignation to be effective the first of the year, but has indicated he will stay around until a replacement for him is found.”It could be 30 days if the person has to give notice or move,” Rippy said. “It could ultimately be the first of March before they come on board.”
