3A hoops state playoffs tip off tonight
Tonight, area Class 3A teams will begin their bids for trips to the March 11-13 state basketball tournament in Fort Collins.
Boys and girls teams from both Coal Ridge and Grand Valley will be traveling all over the state for regional action.
The Coal Ridge boys, who made the 32-team state playoffs with a surprising fifth-place finish at the 3A Western Slope League district tournament, are headed to Pagosa Springs, where they’ll open tonight with a game against the host Pirates.
Coal Ridge’s girls will head to Eaton, where tonight they’ll face the host Reds.
Grand Valley’s boys are bound for Hotchkiss. There, they’ll take on Manitou Springs tonight.
Grand Valley’s girls, owners of a No. 10 seed, are headed to Brush, where they’ll open against St. Mary’s Academy tonight.
Tonight’s winners return to host sites for Saturday’s round of 16. Those left standing on Saturday punch their tickets to the Colorado State University-hosted state tournament.
