CARBONDALE, Colorado ” The second 5Point Film Festival runs May 7-10 at the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center. Tickets are available online at http://www.5pointfilm.org, at the recreation center and at area ticket outlets.

This year’s film festival honors inspired adventurers who have turned their own individual desire into a determined mission to help others.

“It’s about passion, with a conscience,” commented event founder Julie Kennedy.

The line-up includes adventure films from around the world, panel discussions and special guest speakers, including world-class mountaineers Conrad Anker and Jenni Lowe-Anker, famous free climber Lynn Hall, climber/comedian Timmy O’Neill, and more.

“5Point explores the passions behind this elemental shift away from oneself toward the greater human community: Being human, we yearn to be part of something bigger,” according to an event press release. “We manifest that fundamental longing by seeking ever-higher peaks, ever-greater distances to conquer.

“Yet, in focusing solely on these physical and mental challenges, we overlook the wilderness inside ourselves, our spiritual connection to the world ” and each other ” realized on a much deeper level.”

Kennedy explained the core intention of the festival.

“Our vision this year and every year is to provide a forum where filmmakers, innovators and members of the community at large can gather together, share their films and ideas, build relationships and come away transformed by the experience,” she said. “It is a brief moment in time when the right people come together in the right place, supported by the right creative stimulation to make real change.

The Sunday, May 10 program celebrates Mother’s Day with an all-female panel discussion, including Glenwood Springs endurance athlete Sari Anderson and Aspen disabled skier and stem cell treatment patient and advocate Amanda Boxtel.

All programs take place at the Carbondale Recreation Center.

Advance ticket purchases are recommended as some programs sell out. For more information, visit the website, or call (970) 963-2188, or (970) 309-5249.
