6 hurt in 20 car pileup on I-70

GLENWOOD SPRINGS (AP) – Six people were injured in a 20 vehicle accident on a wet, snowy highway that forced the closure of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon for more than four hours.

One woman suffered a broken pelvis Saturday when she got out of her vehicle and was struck by another vehicle. Five others were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released.

The Colorado State Patrol said a trooper was investigating two separate crashes involving six vehicles when other vehicles began crashing behind him. Three semitrailers were involved in the pileup on the elevated highway through the canyon about 9 miles east of Glenwood Springs.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation Sunday.
