A facility to be proud of

Dear Editor:

Garfield County School District No. 16 would like to thank everyone who helped with the new building project, especially the taxpayers who supported the bond issue. The new high school is a facility to be proud of, a facility that will benefit the entire area for many years to come.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Williams Production, American Soda, Toby’s Vacuum Truck Service, and the Grand Valley Park (Rodeo) Association for your help with resources, time and materials.

The energy industry was also instrumental in this project, funding 42 percent of the project. The district also received a $335,000 Energy Impact Assistance Grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs to help offset some of the unforeseen off-site utilities costs. Mr. Tim Sarmo is the regional director of DOLA and was instrumental in that process.

FCI Constructors, the general contractors, and LKA Partners, the architectural firm, went above and beyond the letter of their contracts in order to give us the best facility for the dollar possible.

The artwork and murals throughout the new facility were designed and implemented by FACE-N-SPACE Productions, and everyone involved in the project is either a former staff member or student of Grand Valley High School. Contributing artists are Mark Cowan, Cody Compton, Phil Hemann, Gabe Brubacher and Jimmy Paulis.

Come and see the results for yourself. Garfield County School District No. 16 will be hosting an open house sometime in September (date to be announced).
