A good day for Glenwood Springs Broncos fans

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Denver Broncos fans will get a special treat at Tuesday’s Downtown Market as Glenwood Springs will be designated an official “Broncos Country” town.

The event’s most valuable player, former Denver Bronco defensive back Billy Thompson, who played 13 seasons with the Broncos, will be in town to present Mayor Bruce Christensen and the city with a flag that reads “Glenwood Springs is Broncos Country.” Another flag will be signed by Glenwood area Broncos fans and will be hung at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.

Christensen is excited about the event, and encourages all Broncos fans to come out and sign the flag.

“We are trying to get as many people as possible to sign the [flag] that will be flying over the stadium during the course of the season,” Christensen said.

Thompson will be accompanied by two Denver Broncos cheerleaders, and Miles the mascot will be signing autographs and giving away signed merchandise, apparel, tickets to some home games, stickers and memorabilia for kids. Fans will also be able to get a close-up look at the two Lombardi Super Bowl Trophies, which will also be on display.

The 3A state champion Glenwood Springs High School Demons and teams as young as pee-wee-aged players and community members are invited to suit up to form the largest football huddle in Glenwood Springs history. And the Glenwood Springs High School cheerleaders will start the show with a special cheer.

The event coincides with the Glenwood Downtown Market’s annual soup contest. And in honor of the special occasion, this year there will be two awards for the popular soup contest – a locals choice and a Broncos choice winner.

“I’m sure that this is going to be a very big event for a lot of people in the community,” Christensen said.
