A variety of diet options to meet anyone’s budget
Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
How did your business start?
In 1989, a physician and dietitian at Valley View Hospital began researching weight loss programs with the goal of opening a clinic in the Roaring Fork Valley. After considering many options, they chose to contract with Health Management Resources (HMR), a national health care company in Boston, because it is a research-based program. HMR had the best weight loss data, long-term maintenance data, and training and support for staff of any programs available.
What do you sell?
HMR is a state-of-the-art weight loss treatment program that provides intensive lifestyle education, personalized attention and follow-up, and an emphasis on long-term weight and health management. HMR offers a variety of diet options appropriate for anyone wanting to lose 10-200 or more pounds. All HMR diets use meal replacements (weight loss shakes, entrees, soup, multigrain cereal and nutrition bars) to maximize weight loss and provide optimal nutrition. HMR diet plans are offered in several formats to meet every dieter’s need.
What is your key for surviving the recession?
By keeping our focus on quality patient care, we continue to get excellent outcomes with our clients. HMR offers a variety of diet options to meet anyone’s budget, from HMR’s premier clinic program to do-it-yourself diet kits and our new diet community website. When our clients are achieving success, they are our best advertisement.
What strategy do you use to hire good employees?
We have a dedicated, professional staff, most of whom have been with HMR for more than 12 years. Our staff is passionate about health, we care about the clients we serve, and we practice the same lifestyle behaviors our program teaches. Our program staff attends HMR national trainings annually to stay up to date with current research and behavioral strategies for obesity treatment. We take a team approach in our treatment, which results in successful and satisfied clients. HMR recognizes programs that demonstrate excellence in performance and patient care by presenting gold standard certificates to a select group of clinics across the nation. Our staff was recently awarded 12 gold standard awards, and we have consistently received awards for more than 16 years. These awards distinguish our program and staff from hundreds of HMR clinics nationwide.
What is your plan for growth in the next year in products, services or quality?
Our experience has been that great patient care and excellent results lead to program growth. People on average lose more weight in our program than in any other programs. As our clients experience success, they refer their family and friends. We are continuing to develop connections with area physicians, making it easy for them to refer patients by phone, fax or email. We also have made it easy for anyone to participate in the program by offering over-the-phone and self-directed options, as well as our state-of-the-art clinic program.
What do you enjoy about running a business here?
This is a great area for a business like ours because we promote the healthy lifestyle that people value. HMR’s philosophy is that “your health is in your hands.” Our program helps people take advantage of the active lifestyle Western Colorado offers by assisting them in creating specific, highly detailed and achievable plans for success every day. What better place than this beautiful valley to find opportunities for indoor and outdoor physical activity and access to healthy foods. HMR is glad to be a part of this community for the last 23 years.
