A very successful 9 Health Fair

Jack and Gloria Coates

Dear Editor,

Saturday April 27 was the day of the 23rd Annual 9 Health Fair in Glenwood Springs.

For the first time, the fair was held in the Valley View Medical Professional Building at 1830 Blake Ave. Glenwood Medical Associates, Women’s Health Associates, Rocky Mountain Plastic Surgery, Roaring Fork Surgical Associates and Dr. Matthew Goodstein all provided office space in the building.

Mother Nature cooperated pretty well, so that the long line of participants standing outside in the early morning did not get too cold or wet. Their number this year went over 800, an increase of about 100 over last year. We can’t list everyone involved in making the fair a success but want to thank all of the nearly 100 volunteers that were needed to provide the many services offered.

Lions Clubs sponsor the fairs all over Colorado, and the local club did its share.

Valley View Hospital provided numerous medical staff, as well as the site medical coordinator, Jeanette Refior, assisted by Dee Warvick. Jeanne Golay was the Glenwood Medical Associates site coordinator. GMA also provided staff professionals.

Blood pressures were taken by selected high school students. Registration was handled by members of the Beta Sigma Phi businesswomen’s sorority.

Those having blood drawn for the blood chemistry analysis had fasted for at least 12 hours, so the juice and crackers graciously donated by Safeway were most welcome.

The convenience of the new location and the outstanding effort of all the volunteers made for a very successful 9 Health Fair.

Jack and Gloria Coates,

Nonmedical site coordinators
