Accident closes Highway 133 lanes briefly
A Carbondale man suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday morning that closed the northbound lanes of Highway 133 for about 90 minutes.
Dwight Johns, driving a pickup truck, failed to negotiate the right turn from eastbound Highway 82 onto Highway 133 at the entrance to Carbondale, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The truck crossed both the southbound and northbound lanes of Highway 133, bounced off the guardrail on the bridge and traveled south in the northbound lanes before coming to a stop across both lanes. No other vehicles were involved. The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m.
Traffic was diverted onto area county roads while the northbound lanes were closed.
Johns, 58, was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He was wearing a seat belt, and the pickup’s airbag deployed, according to the state patrol. No alcohol or drugs were involved, the patrol said.
No citation was issued; the accident remained under review Tuesday afternoon, a patrol spokesperson said.
Carbondale firefighters and police, and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident scene.
