Accident closes westbound I-70

A single-vehicle accident closed westbound Interstate 70 east of Glenwood Canyon Tuesday.

At 2:06 p.m., a semi tractor pulling a tanker crashed while going west at milepost 144. Westbound lanes were closed, and traffic was diverted onto Highway 6 from Eagle to Gypsum.

The tanker needed to be unloaded before being righted, and it was expected that westbound lanes could be closed for several hours.

Both occupants of the truck were transported to Vail Valley Medical Center.

Information on the extent of their injuries was unavailable and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
