Accident, snow close Vail Pass

VAIL, Colorado ” Vail Pass was closed for about four hours in both directions Monday evening as a snowstorm moved through the area.

The westbound interstate closed at about 3 p.m. after a multi-car accident occurred about four miles east of the East Vail exit, said Sgt. Christopher Botkins of the Vail Police Department. There were no serious injuries in the crash, Botkins said.

The eastbound interstate closed shortly thereafter due to snowy road conditions and to allow for access to the accident on the westbound side, Botkins said.

The pass reopened at about 7:30 p.m.

The Colorado State Patrol, which was in charge of the accident, did not return a phone call Monday night.

A winter storm warning was in effect for Vail through 6 a.m. this morning.
