Ad scam caller seeks credit card info
At least two people who placed classified advertisements in the Post Independent and Aspen Times have received phone calls in the past week from a man claiming to represent the papers and seeking credit card information.
Basalt Police Officer Jason Hegberg said one of the callers said he was John Russell from the Post Independent and claimed the person’s credit card had been declined. “Russell” wanted to get another card number from the person.
It’s a scam. No one of that name works for the PI.
The caller uses a phone number that is blocked from showing up on caller ID.
Advertisers in the Post Independent, Aspen Times, Vail Daily, Summit Daily News and affiliated weeklies including the Eagle Valley Enterprise, Snowmass Sun and Rifle Citizen Telegram can call 970-945-9937 if they have questions about billing or any contact regarding classified ad payments.
