Addressing prevalent `mental’ conditions

Jack E. Blankenship

Dear Editor,

Without physical activity for a couple of days, an idle mind will wander and realize that there are mental conditions that soon must be addressed by a symposium of experts.

For example: Arborfibrosis – An extreme love of all trees and brush, even the dead and beetle infested; sufferers would rather see a tree burn than used to build a home. Complication: Delusion that fire ravaged forests recover faster than responsibly thinned forests and carefully restored forest floors and temporary roads.

Petroparalysis – Mindset that resists all reasonable development of oil and gas and other natural resources. Occasional complication: Impression that a wind farm that remains on location obscuring the landscape and killing birds is better than a drilling rig or mining operation that is removed from sight after completion of development.

Respectfully submitted (Have to quit the “Thanks For Listening” signoff. It’s been adopted by some of your professionals.)
