GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Dan Adkison, the momentary local Jeopardy! champion, made it three wins in a row before losing on his fourth appearance Monday and ending his streak, according to his mom.

Deb Bamesberger, of Snowmass, reported that her son earned $38,400 in games broadcast April 18-23. The shows were recorded in December, but Adkison was under strict orders not to reveal to outcome of any of the shows.

“He started off as the returning champ, but the buzzer got the best of him today, he did not win,” Bamesberger wrote Monday night in an email to the Post Independent.

She was referring to the button contestants push, after listening to a question posed by host Alex Trebek, to indicate they have an answer.

On his initial Jeopardy! appearances, Adkison could be seen repeatedly pushing the button to sound the buzzer, even after other contestants had beaten him to it.

“It was a great run. [I’m] very proud of the fact he was on at all,” she wrote.

Adkison, 36, is a 1993 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School, and a 1997 graduate, summa cum laude, with a journalism degree from Boston University.

He currently is the deputy chief copy editor at Time magazine in New York City.

Born in Pueblo, he and his family lived in Grand Junction for about three years before moving to Glenwood Springs when Dan was 5.
