The Adventure Xstream (AXS) Race Series returns to Glenwood Springs on Saturday with a 12-hour adventure race.

The AXS adventure race challenges racers over a 50-mile course that entails mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, river boarding, a ropes course and navigation. The out-of-the-ordinary race course has racers hit the trails, scramble over rocks, rappel into a cave, kayak through rapids and experience the outdoors like never before.

Hundreds of racers will mountain bike, kayak, trail run, rappel, trek through a cave and navigate an optional river boarding section during the course.

Glenwood Springs’ setting at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers make it a natural fit for the AXS race.

“Glenwood Springs is a perfect venue for the Adventure Xstream Race Series,” states Will Newcomer, president of Gravity Play Sports. “It has a great stretch of whitewater, awesome single-track biking and an adventurous ropes course.”

Gravity Play Sports owns and produces the AXS series throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. The series’ other 2012 stops included Moab in April and Summit County in July.
