Thunder River Theatre Company is looking for a few young people interested in theatre for apprenticeships in all technical areas. The company has state-of-the-art light and sound equipment, builds all of its own scenery, and coordinates and builds costumes and props. High school or college-age students who would like to spend a year with TRTC working on all productions in the new black-box theatre at 67 Promenade in downtown Carbondale should call Lon Winston at 963-8200. Practicum college credits may be available. TRTC also welcomes volunteers of all ages. Sustainable Settings’ Third Annual Harvest Benefit takes place from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Sustainable Settings Ranch. Celebrate the harvest and local organic agriculture with fire-roasted lamb, Beyond Organic salads, fingerling potatoes, fresh peach concoctions, artisan cheeses, and local organic wines and spirits. The event also features live bluegrass music, horse-and-buggy rides, chef demonstrations and a silent auction. Tickets: $125/person. Kids under 12 free. For reservations, call 963-6107.
The Carbondale Clay Center invites the public to its annual August benefit dinner, themed “Enhanced by Color,” at Restaurant six89, 689 Main St., Carbondale Monday, Aug. 21. Support the center’s year-round educational and cultural programs, including the summer kids’ clay camps, while enjoying fine food, art and music.
