Alice A. Merten

Alice A. Merten of Topeka, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at a Topeka care facility. She was 74.

She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Springfield, Mo., to Gordon B. and Irene Crawford Merten.

She graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield.



She married Robert Gilmore in 1946 in Springfield. They later divorced.

Ms. Merten worked as a real estate broker and bookkeeper.



She was a member of the Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Roberta Gilmore, and a grandson.

She is survived by a son, Nathaniel Gilmore of Mountain Grove, Mo.; daughters Carmen Barsness of Kansas City, Mo., Debra Hallenbeck of Topeka, and Connie Brors of Rifle; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held Dec. 5 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.

Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
