Alvin Wilbert Woody

Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Longtime Rifle area resident Alvin Wilbert Woody passed away Jan. 15, 2009.

Alvin was born Dec. 9, 1934, to Elvina (Selle) and Wilbert J. Woody in Monroe, Iowa.

After the loss of his father, Alvin and his mother moved to the Antlers area, where Elvina later married Loren Jewell of Rifle. Alvin attended Antlers School and later graduated from Rifle Union High School.



Alvin enlisted and served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps. While in Okinawa, Japan, Alvin met and married Akiko (Kay) Nakazato.

After completing his service, Alvin and Akiko moved to the ranch on Hunter Mesa located near the Rifle Airport.



Alvin enjoyed a lifetime of farming, family and collecting Studebakers.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years; children MaryAnn (Mike) Dwire, Loren Wilbur and Jay; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Billy (Maureen) Jewell and Charles (Betty) Jewell; sister Carol (Larry) Keith; and many extended family members in Japan and the Rifle area.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; and brother Jack Jewell.

He will be deeply missed.
