Ambulance services talk merger

The Silt and New Castle ambulance services are considering a merger or joining the area’s fire district. The public discussion begins during New Castle’s town council meeting at 7 p.m. tonight.Other discussions are scheduled, including a follow up meeting at New Castle Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, said New Castle Town Clerk Lisa Cain. For information, call 984-0466.Michael Watts, a board member with the Burning Mountains Fire Protection District, said both ambulance services approached the district two months ago with “feelers” about joining the district.Watts said options for the ambulance services include:-Joining the Burning Mountains Fire Protection District, a special taxing district which provides fire protection to the New Castle and Silt areas.-Merging the two ambulance services.-Maintaining the status quo.Representatives from the New Castle and Silt ambulances services were not available for comment. The Colorado Department of Local Affairs is facilitating the merger talks.
