Amonette trial set for January

Accused cop shooter Phillip Michael Amonette is headed to trial in January 2012 for allegedly shooting and striking a Rifle police officer in October 2010.

Amonette, 54, pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree attempted murder and first degree assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

He faces other charges for allegedly shooting at Rifle Police Officer Garrett Duncan during an altercation at Amonette’s residence in Rifle on Oct. 22.



A 10-day trial has been scheduled to begin on Jan. 30, 2012. Amonette remains in custody in the Garfield County Jail on a $1 million bond.
