Carbondale’s Third Street Center to mark five year anniversary

Staff Report

Carbondale’s Third Street Center celebrates five years in operation Thursday with cake, root beer and a chance to discuss the future beginning at 5 p.m.

Formerly Carbondale Elementary School, the building was converted into an independent, multi-tenant community center in 2010 after a $4.5 million renovation made possible by a partnership between public, private and nonprofit sectors.

“After all the effort involved in the renovation, it’s gratifying to see how well Third Street Center is used,” said Executive Director Colin Laird. “Third Street has become a community and regional hub for community innovation, problem-solving and celebration — that’s an accomplishment to celebrate.”
